Welcome to MediaRhetoric.com

Hi! I am Dr. Janet Johnson, Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Dallas. I teach communication courses in new media and media.

I’m interested in researching the the cultural impact that the digital world has on new ways we receive information, which has primarily been dominated by television, radio, and print as well as how this digital world is creating a more active audience than a passive one. I like to study what information people, be it private citizens, politicians, journalists, etc, are sharing online and rhetorically analyze the significance of such digitized collective sharing.

This blog will hopefully become a discussion of various educational topics, research pursuits, scholarly musings, and academic discussions. I hope to share my scholarly pursuits with you in this blog. Happy New Year!

I am a professor, pretend political pundit, media critic, and the author of the upcoming book: Political Rhetoric, Social Media, and American Presidential Campaigns: Candidates' Use of New Media. (December 2020 Lexington Books) Critiquing and monitoring social media/media in the political process is what I do. I live for American Presidential Campaigns.
